Using essential oils safely
ASAAL oils are planned for diffusers and home fragrance. They won’t be sold for use on skin or for swallowing. This is general guidance. Each bottle will come with its own directions and warnings, based on the supplier’s safety data sheet. Always follow the label.
General precautions
- Don’t swallow essential oils, put them on skin, or add them to food, drinks or bath water.
- Keep them away from eyes. If oil gets in your eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
- Many essential oils are flammable. Keep them away from naked flames and heat.
- Keep bottles out of reach of children and away from pets.
- Diffuse in a ventilated room and take breaks.
Take extra care
- Around babies, young children, pregnant people and anyone with asthma or breathing problems, check with a doctor or pharmacist first.
- Pets, especially cats and birds, can be sensitive to many oils. Only diffuse in a room they can leave.
- Store bottles upright and tightly closed, in a cool, dark place.
If someone swallows an essential oil, don’t make them sick. Call NHS 111 or your doctor straight away and show them the bottle or label. Essential oils aren’t medicines and don’t replace medical advice.
